Deskripsi
“The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde” is a novel written by Scottish author, Robert Louis Stevenson, and first published in 1886. This mystery-psychology genre novel which is set in London itself raises the issue of human duality in the world of case psychology. This is said to refer to multiple personality disorders. Dr. Jekyll, who is known as a philanthropist and respected person, conducted a scientific experiment. He wants to separate the 'good' and 'evil' sides of himself. Thus, Mr. Hyde is described as very evil and scary.
In this novel there is no good description of Hyde's figure. He is a very cruel torturer and murderer. Even by looking at it, people immediately felt hatred. Everything reeks of evil and horror. Physically, Dr. Jekyll is described as very different from Mr. Hyde. Dr. Jekyll was a man in his fifties with a large, stout, and delicate face. He is capable and friendly, liked and respected by the people, and generous. In contrast to Hyde who is described as a dwarf with a body filled with fur.
This novel is very interesting. Describes the two sides of humans: the 'neutral side' having good and bad qualities, but dominantly good and the 'evil side'. Stevenson through the characters Jekyll and Hyde managed to describe both sides. That in every human being there is Jekyll and Hyde in it; light and dark sides. Just how to control both.
